Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire has announced details of ‘The VOSCARS 2016’, which will be a unique Hollywood-style awards ceremony to recognise the outstanding efforts of local volunteers, voluntary sector organisations and champions of the community.

The VOSCARS 2016 will take place on the evening of Tuesday 1 November 2016 at Motherwell Concert Hall. Awards will be made on the night in 13 categories to reward deserving volunteers, volunteer-involving agencies, third sector organisations, social enterprises and other partners and individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to supporting communities and the voluntary sector in North Lanarkshire.

The event will take place five years on from the original North Lanarkshire VOSCARS ceremony, which was organised as part of local festivities to mark the European Year of Volunteering 2011. The previous staging proved a huge success, attracting widespread interest and positive media coverage both locally and nationally. With your help, we are confident that this year’s ceremony can be even bigger and better than before.

This is a great opportunity for community co-operatives in the area to raise awareness of themselves and the impact they are making in their local community. Nominations are open until Friday 16 September, and self-nominations are encouraged. Award winners will be selected by an esteemed independent judging panel, with all category finalists being invited to attend The VOSCARS ceremony, and all nominated individuals and organisations receiving a recognition certificate from North Lanarkshire Voluntary Sector Partnership Group. Award winners will receive a specially-engraved Oscars-style trophy. The nomination categories are as follows:

  • Young Volunteer
  • Golden Volunteer
  • Volunteering in a Sports Setting
  • Volunteer Champion
  • Volunteer-Engaging Organisation
  • Engaging Support Needs Volunteers
  • Social Enterprising Organisation
  • Outstanding New Organisation
  • Employer Supported Volunteering
  • Promoting Safer Communities
  • Community Transport Champion
  • Supporting Fire Safety and Awareness
  • North Lanarkshire Volunteer of the Year 2016
