Our Chair, Margaret Clark, has become a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of services to rural communities in the New Year Honours list.

Margaret Clark joined the Plunkett Foundation board in February 2013 and became its chair in July of the same year. She also chairs the Hastoe Housing Group, the leading specialist provider of rural affordable housing in England. She is a former director and Deputy Chief Executive of the Commission for Rural Communities and Countryside Agency, and, for seven years, was the chair of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s international working party on territorial policy in rural areas. She has also been a rural adviser to Business in the Community, with particular responsibility for HRH The Prince of Wales's Affordable Rural Housing Initiative.

Plunkett Foundation’s Chief Executive, Peter Couchman, said: “We couldn’t be more pleased for Margaret, who has worked tirelessly representing rural communities, on receiving this much-deserved recognition. Under her stewardship the Plunkett Foundation has continued to support communities to help them overcome issues like social isolation and loneliness through co-operation and we hugely value her contribution.”

Margaret is also a member of both the Campaign to Protect Rural England’s (CPRE) Policy Committee and Pub Is The Hub's western hub. Previous memberships include: Carnegie UK Trust Rural Committee; BBC Rural Affairs Advisory Committee; Independent Policy Commission on Primary School Organisation in Shropshire; and more recently chair of the Somerset, Devon and Dorset Community Land Trust Project.
