Community businesses operate at the heart of their community. They range from community shops & pubs to community gyms, youth clubs, lunch & social clubs and many more. They exist to provide for the needs of the locals, not for profit. As more communities face a lack of public funding and more public spaces are being sold off, this event is all about how you can maintain many of our great community institutions and services by running it as a community business – by the people for the people.

You will leave the event with new contacts and knowledge of:

  • Why do people set up community assets and what are the benefits?
  • Lessons and examples on how to set up your own community business/turn a grant dependent community service into a community business.
  • Guides on the legal rights and mechanisms necessary to acquire community buildings, bid for land or bid to run local authority services.
  • How to ensure your community business is sustainable.

The day will provide a mix of inspiring case studies; networking time, skill sharing and World Café style discussion rounds exploring different aspects of establishing, running and sustaining a community business in more detail.

This event is completely free and lunch and refreshments will be provided. Spaces are limited so please sign up soon by using the booking link at the bottom of the page.

This event has been made possible by many, including funding and expertise from Eden Communities, Plunkett Foundation and Power to Change.
