Ide is celebrating the opening of the 200th Rural Community Owned Shop in Britain. An extremely motivated committee ensured that the new shop was scheduled to open the day after the Village's commercial shop closed. The new shop is housed in a Portacabin and is staffed 7 days a week by 40 committed volunteers.
The shop stocks a wide range of local goods, including locally produced meats from West Town Farm 500 yeards away as well as local bakery products and fruit and vegetables. The shop intends to supply more local goods through Own: Devon's Online Supermarket.
