Northern Farming Conference

The Northern Farming Conference aims to give farmers and those advising them information on developments across the agricultural industry and public sector to aid farm business planning over the next year and beyond. This year's conference, held at the Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate on Friday 9th November, opens at 09:30 for registration, with the morning session starting at 10:00. The day will close following practical thoughts and advice from Yorkshire farmers Andrew Gloag and Mike Powley. The sessions will be chaired and speakers grouped into subject areas (future government and EU policy, recruiting and educating our farmers, what sustainable farming looks like, practical livestock and arable updates) followed by questions. The first session will consist of short talks from four speakers followed by a chaired discussion about the future of farming policy. Questions for the speakers are invited via the booking forms or direct to the conference secretary, Robin Earle (robin.earle@struttandparker.com ).

  • Professor Buckwell - Expert on rural policy and agricultural affairs.
  • Michael Blanche - Borders sheep farmer and Nuffield Scholar.
  • Liz Philip - Principal of Askham Bryan Agriculture College.
  • Poul Christensen - Chair of Natural England and Oxfordshire farmer.
  • Guy Smith - Essex farmer and agricultural columnist.
  • Andrew Gloag - Yorkshire arable farmer.
  • Mike Powley - Yorkshire beef farmer.
