THE LATEST COMMUNITY-OWNED SHOP COULD BE ON THE ARCHERS!
Plunkett are pleased to announce that the 'community-owned' shop storyline has begun on The Archers, on BBC Radio 4. Currently in the soap, owners of the only shop and post office in Ambridge are considering selling-up, in order to generate some much needed cash. Many of the villagers are upset by this and are now discussing the option of a community-owned shop as a way of retaining the heart of the community. Peter Couchman, Chief Executive of the Plunkett Foundation said, “The producers behind The Archers have seriously considered community-ownership, just as we would recommend to any rural community in this position. We want to create solutions and to assist people in becoming proactive, as the number of rural shops closing increases.
